Taking More Time to Reassess

"Amid the saber rattling since September 11th, we all have a chance to reassess many aspects of our lives -- our Lenten disciplines, our connection with Earth, our overconsumption, our relationships with other peoples, our work for peace."

A new 40-day guide and other resources for Lent and Easter are available from Alternatives for Simple Living. The guide -- "Taking More Time to Reassess" -- contains daily thoughts and web sites from Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday for individuals, families and other small groups.

The text of the guide is available on-line at

In the style of it's most widely read resource - "Whose Birthday Is It, Anyway?" for Advent and Christmas - Alternatives has issued an expandable collection of past materials for Lent and Easter called Who's Risen from the Dead, Anyway?

It contains five sets of reflections on the Gospel lessons for Lent and Easter (covering all three liturgical cycles), each with activities. Also, Passover and Easter Seders and a generous variety of bulletin inserts, posters and 40-day guides.

The entire collection, plus over 1500 pages of other resources is available on one CD-ROM, "Simply the Best: Over 30 Years of Alternatives."

Other resources produced by Alternatives include: the award-winning video "Break Forth into Joy!: Beyond a Consumer Lifestyle;" "Wedding Alternatives," a guide to planning out-of-the-ordinary celebrations; "Treasury of Celebrations," which helps create celebrations that truly reflect your values and don't cost the Earth; "Simple Living 101," a Toolbook for activists shy or bold; and "Spirit of Simplicity: Quotes & Art for Simpler Living and Global Justice." The collection "Sing Justice! Do Justice!" contains new hymns appropriate for Lent and Easter.

Alternatives is a nonprofit organization that "equips people of faith to challenge consumerism, live justly, and celebrate responsibly." Alternatives serves everyone.
