What Gifts Shall We Bring?

Bulletin Insert

  1. Remember whose birthday it is. Christmas gift giving begins with a recognition that Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. He should be first, not last, on our Christmas list!
  2. Give to those he came to serve! the poor, the homeless, the prisoner, the hungry, the oppressed, and the outcast. Is there a better way to honor him than to give of ourselves to these?

TIME: Commit time to participate in a group working lunch with society's "devalued" persons: a senior citizen's program; prison visitation; help with the resettlement of a refugee family; etc.

SKILLS: Volunteer to cook, repair, do bookkeeping, for example, or teach those skills to disadvantaged persons. Neither dollars nor bright wrapping paper can improve on these gifts.

MONEY: Financial gifts to support ministries among society's "forgotten" people can make a difference. If 10,000 families divert only $100 each this Christmas, that will be ONE MILLION dollars.

3. Plan your gift giving! Make your gift list early Discuss with your family your willingness to spend in time, skills, and money -  least 25% of what you spent on last year's Christmas.

Warning: You probably do not have enough time or money to do everything you have done before and add this on: this must replace some of What you've done and spent before.
