Three Versions of Alternative Wedding Book

"The average American wedding now costs over $20,000," said Gerald Iversen of Simple Living Works! - successor to Alternatives. "If you believe you can find value and meaning without going into debt, if you want a wedding filled with true family values, try The Alternative Wedding Book."

"Create a beautiful wedding that reflects your values and doesn't cost the Earth," Iversen said. "The Alternative Wedding Book offers alternatives to engaged couples, clergy and others: alternatives to the bridal magazines and professional bridal consultants. The Alternative Wedding Book encourages couples to use their imaginations as they incorporate their values and family and ethnic traditions to plan meaningful wedding celebrations. It's a practical planning guide with personal stories from people who chose more than the status quo wedding."

This resource is now available in three versions - English soft cover, English packet or Spanish soft cover. Both English and Spanish editions are identical in content and are available free of charge from SimpleLivingWorks.org >> Archives. The English online version includes a supplement.

The packet edition, entitled Wedding Alternatives: A Guide to Planning Out-of-the-Ordinary Celebrations, is three hole punched for use in a binder, so that portions can be copied. The Spanish edition is entitled Nuestra Boda.

Alternatives' mission is being extended through social media by Simple LivingWorks -- "equipping people of faith to challenge consumerism, live justly, and celebrate responsibly." Started in 1973 as a protest against the commercialization of Christmas, it encourages celebrations year-round that reflect conscientious ways of living. Throughout its 38-year history, Alternatives has helped lead the movement to live more simply and faithfully. The many staff members and volunteers of Alternatives have developed a wide variety of resources, organized an annual Christmas Campaign, held the Best and Worst Christmas Gift Contest, led numerous workshops, and reached countless people with the message of simple, responsible living. Alternatives emphasizes relationships and traditions over things, hoping to avoid stress and debt, and promoting alternative giving - helping the truly needy instead of spending so much on ourselves.

SimpleLivingWorks.org >> Archives offers resources on living more simply, resources for children and adults. Many items are appropriate for weddings and graduations.

SimpleLivingWorks.org >> Archives offers its own materials on simple living and related topics (such as hunger, the environment, media literacy, etc.) for Advent and Christmas, for Lent and Easter, for weddings and for year-round use - some in Spanish.

Other resources produced by Alternatives are usable year-round. The video Break Forth into Joy!: Beyond a Consumer Lifestyle won a Gold Medal at the Houston International Film Festival! Treasury of Celebrations aims to help create celebrations that truly reflect your values and don't cost the Earth.

Titles not on the website include Sing Justice! Do Justice!, a collection of new hymns, and the book and DVD Stories and Songs of Simple Living.

Alternatives also provided resources appropriate for reevaluation of Christmas, including the annual Whose Birthday Is It, Anyway?; collections of Christmas stories to read aloud or alone; and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas video.

Simple Living Works! does not sell anything nor solicit donations. It offers benefits to everyone. Contact Gerald Iversen at SimpleLivingWorks@yahoo.com. Visit SimpleLivingWorks.org. #####
