Paul came to our rescue when Jubilee Economics‘ site and The Common Good podcast were hacked in Feb., 2014. As an internet security expert, he helped us secure our site and get back to business instead of worrying about hackers.

I met Paul and Ann on a speaking tour of Calif. several years ago. They hosted me in their Bay Area home and later contributed their marriage vows to our collection Wedding Alternatives.

I was eager to talk to Paul about Pope Francis’ recent encyclical, Laudato Si, and about the Pope’s visit to the U.S. Paul is a friend of Jubilee OneEarth economics and head of a The Catholic Pastoral Center that publishes and distributes religious educational resources. He is preparing some resources around the encyclical.

Because of the timeliness of the pope’s visit to the US and its relevance to both of our organizations. We are publishing Paul’s interview simultaneously on both The Common Good Podcast and SLW! Podcast.

It is good to see that you are keeping the organization – at least the materials – alive and well.
Dissertations are a very big endeavor. And as you know, I spent many a year with the organization so as to produce such a product.
That being said, this is a project that uses a sociological mindset. Again, another perspective that gets misunderstood. Most people align it with psychology. Not the case. Sociology looks at how people and society interact. It is more of the nature vs nurture argument – sociology being the nurture. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the dissertation. I worked really hard on it and feel it offers a strong qualitative account of simple living, the relationship between faith based beliefs and simple living, as well as the role a national organization played in the larger conversation of simple living.
